Larkin Day – Philip Pullen Talk

May 8 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Guided walk with Marc Petty, beginning outside All Saints Church, Wellington, TF1 3AP at 2pm and lasting approximately two hours. Marc will lead a guided tour around the poet’s local haunts and consider his place in the wider heritage of a town with an impressive range of literary associations spanning several centuries.

Then at 7.30pm in the Wellington Library, TF1 1 join Philip Pullen – who writes regularly for the Larkin Society Journal and recently contributed to the highly acclaimed anthology Writers and their Mothers – as he reflects on the significance of Wellington in the Larkin story. Please note that tickets for THE WALK are available through a separate event booking on Eventbrite.

November 2018 marked the 75th anniversary of Philip Larkin’s appointment as Wellington’s librarian. During his three year stay, the British literary giant published his only two novels and his first collection of poetry, while doing much to transform the antiquated facility into what was his first professional post. Larkin’s time in the town is now widely acknowledged as significant in moulding his attitude to life, love and relationships; the subjects of much of his greater work.
