Welcome to the pottery at the Belfrey Arts Centre!
We will be running some free drop in pottery sessions during the Wellington Festival where you can have a go at throwing on a wheel, make a fish sculpture for the garden or a design and make a cup, decorated with slips.
All sessions are free of charge and are suitable for all ages and all abilities. Children must be accompanied by an adult and it is advisable to come early to avoid the queues!
Feeling inspired by the BBC’s Great Pottery Throwdown?
Now’s your chance to have a go at making a pot using a pottery wheel!
Suitable for those who are able bodied, families and adults of all levels of abilities. Beginners, intermediates and advanced are all welcome!
Fish sculptures for the garden
This is a great activity for those who have smaller children or have limited mobility.
You will have great fun manipulating and decorating slabs of clay with found objects such as bits of string, lace, Lego, stamps etc to then turn them into fish. The fish will be decorated using slips and once fired, can then be left outdoors. A great way to bring Colour into your garden!
Make a cup
If you have a bit more time and want to create something which is functional, you are invited to take part in making a cup from rolled out slabs of clay and coils.
The cup will be designed, decorated and constructed from scratch ( with some help!).
Once fired, the cup can be taken home and impress all of your friends!
About the pottery
The Belfrey Pottery is a small independently run ceramics workshop which was set up in 2013 by local artist Sharon Griffin. The Pottery is providing a small creative safe space for adults to enjoy the benefits of clay on a regular basis without pressure!
We have a wide variety of clays, glazes and equipment such as pottery wheels, extruder, press moulds and a fantastic range of biscuits and herbal teas!
We run pottery classes throughout the year. Get in touch with us!
