Wellington Brass Band and Shawbury Wives Choir
October 26 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Wellington (Telford) Brass Band was officially born in October 2000. Previous incarnations include “Telford Band” and “Dawley Band”. The band has grown over the years helped by sponsorship by Wellington Town Council. The Band plays regularly in and around Telford, appearing at the Remembrance Day Parade in Wellington, the annual Civic Carol Service and has just enjoyed a Twinning trip to Chatenay Malabry to take part in the annual Fete de la Musique. The Band has competed annually in the Midland Regional Championships achieving great results. The band will be promoted to the 2nd. Section from January 2020. Musical Director Stephen Rhodes has been with the band since August 2018. Stephen has his sights well and truly on the annual area competition as this is the key to player development and overall band improvement. The band rehearses at the Arleston Community Centre in Wellington and welcomes brass players of any standard that want to join us to enjoy the varied music we play. Shawbury Military Wives Choir was formed in February 2012 and is part of the Military Wives Choir Foundation (MWCF). The Shawbury MWC has participated in all 4 Albums recorded by the Foundation such as Stronger Together, In my Dreams, Home for Christmas, Remember. The MWCF has 75 choirs spread across the world and the choir at Shawbury has approximately 30 members. No audition or ability to read music is necessary, just a willingness to have a go and enjoy. We have been honored to have had some wonderful events over the last 7 years. In 2013 we were chosen as one of 7 choirs to support Sir Cliff Richard. We sang the National Anthem at The Grand National in 2014 and performed at the Anglican Cathedral Liverpool in aid of SSAFA in the same year. More recently the MWCF has been supporting Lulu’s tour which involved 43 choirs at 35 venues across the country and Shawbury joined Cosford MWC at Theatre Severn. These are just a small selection of some of the exciting opportunities we have had together over the years with many, many other wonderful local and national performances; however, the choir offers more than just these events. The choir primarily offers friendship, support and a sense of belonging. A real chance to have some ‘me’ time. The ladies know that should they need any of us, we will be there for them. It has been a very exciting year to date with live performances at Shrewsbury Carers’ Week and Cosford Food Festival. The Military Wives Choir Shawbury are excited to be returning to Wellington again this year to support the Festival. We look forward to performing many of songs from our albums on the night.
